SUBCLASS 601

The Subclass 601 Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) is a short-term visa that allows eligible passport holders to visit Australia for tourism or business visitor purposes. It permits multiple entries over a 12-month period, with each stay lasting up to 3 months. The ETA is electronically linked to the traveller’s passport and must be applied for using the Australian ETA app. While there is no visa application charge, a service fee may apply.

WHAT THIS VISA ALLOWS YOU TO DO

Visit Australia during the validity period of your visa

Study or train for up to three months in total while you hold the eVisitor visa

Undertake business visitor activities such as general business enquiries, negotiate contracts, participate in a conference, etc. (no paid work allowed)

Enter Australia multiple times during the validity period of the visa (12 months) or until your passport expires, whichever is shorter. However, you cannot stay longer than 3 months at a time.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION*
Subclass 601 visa holders should be aware that:

They must comply with all conditions imposed on the visa applicant when the visa was granted

They are not allowed to work while holding an ETA visa

They cannot extend your visitor visa and you must apply for a new visa if you want to stay longer

They must obey Australian law

New laws have been implemented to prevent Visitor visa holders from moving to a Student visa while in Australia
FEES AND CHARGES

There is currently no visa application fee for the ETA Subclass 601, however, a service fee of AUD20 is payable to use the Australian ETA app.

Please note that the visa application charge is the application fee charged by the Department to assess the application. Any professional fees or other services such as police checks, health examinations, translations, etc., are charged separately.

PROCESSING TIMES

Applications for ETA visas are generally processed within 24 hours, however there may be longer processing times depending on the individual circumstances and completeness of the application.
