SUBCLASS 482

The Skills in Demand (SID) Subclass 482 visa allows Australian employers to sponsor skilled overseas workers to fill positions they are unable to fill with local workers. It is a temporary work visa, offering a pathway to permanent residency, for example, through the Subclass 186 visa. The Subclass 482 visa is available under three different streams: Core Skills Stream, Specialist Skills Stream and Labour Agreement Stream.

Subclass 482 - Core Skills Stream
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

You must have been nominated for an occupation on the Core Skills Occupation List by an Australian employer who is or have applied to become a Standard business sponsor

You must be employed to work for the nominating employer in your nominated occupation

You must be able to demonstrate you have the skills, qualification and employment background to perform occupation

In some cases, you may need to have a positive skills assessment
-
You must have at least 1 year full-time work experience in the same occupation or a related field

You must be paid no less than the Core Skills Income Threshold (currently AUD76,515.00)

You must have a positive skills assessment if required for your occupation
-
You must meet the English language proficiency requirement
-
You must maintain adequate health insurance
-
You must meet health and character requirements
WHAT THIS VISA ALLOWS YOU TO DO

Live, work and study in Australia for the validity period of the visa, usually for up to 4 years

Travel to and from Australia during the validity of the visa

Apply for permanent residence, if eligible

Government Visa Application Charges

Base visa application charge for a Skills in Demand (Subclass 482) is of AUD3,210.00​.
Additional applicant charge for those who are 18 or over is of AUD3,210.00
Additional applicant charge for those under 18 is of AUD805.00​
