SUBCLASS 600

The Subclass 600 Visitor visa allows people to visit Australia for tourism, to see family and friends, or for short-term business activities. It includes five streams: the Tourist Stream for holidays and leisure travel, the Sponsored Family Stream for visiting family with the support of an Australian sponsor, the Business Visitor Stream for attending business meetings or conferences, the Approved Destination Status Stream, available to Chinese citizens travelling on organised tours. Each stream has specific eligibility requirements and conditions, and the Frequent Traveller Stream for citizens of certain countries who travel often to Australia for tourism or business visitor activities.

Subclass 600 - Tourist Stream

You must intend to come to Australia to visit only
You must be able to demonstrate you can support yourself financially during your stay in Australia
You must make adequate arrangements for health insurance for the whole duration of your stay
You must meet health and character requirements

WHAT THIS VISA ALLOWS YOU TO DO

Visit Australia during the validity period of your visa
Study or train for up to three months
Visitor visas are typically granted for 3, 6, or 12 months. However, these visas often include conditions that limit the length of each stay. For example, a visa may be valid for 12 months but only allow a maximum stay of 3 months per entry. In some cases, parents of Australian citizens or permanent residents may be eligible for longer validity periods.
If you are granted a multiple entry visa, you may leave and re-enter Australia as many time as you want while the visa is valid.

Subclass 600 visa holders should be aware that:

They must comply with all conditions imposed on the visa applicant when the visa was granted
They are not allowed to work while holding a visitor visa

First Instalment for applicants outside Australia at time of application

Base visa application charge for a Subclass 600 visa in the Tourist Stream is of AUD200.00.

Note: The following applicants have a NIL visa application charge:

CCAMLR
Foreign government representatives
Certain persons invited by the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organising Committee
Holders of a valid Pacific Australia Card who are outside of Australia at time of lodgement

There is no second instalment in relation to Subclass 600 visa.

Subclass 600 - Frequent Traveller Stream

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

You must hold a valid passport of an eligible country and be a national of that country:
- Brunei Darussalam
- Cambodia
- Indonesia
- Lao People's Democratic Republic
- Malaysia
- The People's Republic of China
- The Philippines
- SIngapore
- Thailand
- Timor-Leste
- Viet Nam
You must be able to demonstrate you can support yourself financially during your stay in Australia
You must make adequate arrangements for health insurance for the whole duration of your stay
You must be a genuine visitor
You must meet health and character requirements

WHAT THIS VISA ALLOWS YOU TO DO

Visit Australia, friends and family during the validity period of your visa
Undertake business visitor activities (general business enquiries, attend conferences, etc. - no paid work)
Frequent Traveller visas are typically granted for 10 years. However, these visas often include conditions that limit the length of each stay. For example, a visa may be valid for 10 years but only allow a maximum stay of 3 months per entry and 12 months in total in any 24-month period.
If you are granted a multiple entry visa, you may leave and re-enter Australia as many time as you want while the visa is valid.

Subclass 600 - Approved Destination Status (ADS) Stream

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

You must hold a passport from an eligible country:
- People's Republic of China (PRC)
You must be in the PRC at time of application
You must be part of a tour group organised by an ADS approved travel agent
Your visa application must be lodged by an approved ADS travel agent (no direct application allowed)
You must be able to demonstrate you can support yourself financially during your stay in Australia
You must be a genuine temporary visitor
You must meet health and character requirements

WHAT THIS VISA ALLOWS YOU TO DO

Enter Australia with your approved tour group and participate in activities that are part of your tour

Subclass 600 visa holders in the Approved Destination Status Stream should be aware that:

They must comply with all conditions imposed on the visa applicant when the visa was granted
They are not allowed to work while holding a visitor visa
They are usually not allowed to apply for another visa while in Australia because of a no further stay condition often impsoed on visas to Subclass 600 visas in the Approved Destionation Status Stream
They must depart Australia with the tour group, unless prior arrangements have been approved
They must obey Australian law
