WORK AND HOLIDAY VISAS
The Work and Holiday visa (subclass 462) and the Working Holiday visa (subclass 417) are designed for young adults, typically aged 18 to 30, from eligible countries. These visas allow them to travel and explore Australia while also giving them the option to work during their stay.

WORK AND HOLIDAY VISA
SUBCLASS 462
This visa is for young adults (aged 18–30 or 35, depending on nationality) from eligible countries. It offers the opportunity to work and travel in Australia, with some additional requirements and a different list of eligible countries if compared to the subclass 417 visa.
WORKING HOLIDAY VISA
SUBCLASS 417
For young adults (usually aged 18–30) from eligible countries who want to holiday and work in Australia for up to 12 months. This visa allows short-term work to help fund your travels. No formal education or English requirements apply.
Work and Holiday - Subclass 462
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

You must be outside Australia when you apply for this visa, unless those applying for subsequent subclass 462 visas

You must have a passport from an eligible country: Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Chile, PRC, Czech Republic, Ecuador, Greece, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Israel, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Mongolia, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Poland, Portugal, San Marino, Singapore, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, Türkiye, Uruguay, USA, Vietnam.

You must be between 18 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at time of application

You must not have any dependent children with you during your stay in Australia while holding the subclass 462 visa

You must meet the education requirements (variable depending on the country of passport)

You must have at least functional English

You must have sufficient money to fund your trip to and from Australia and to support your stay while in Australia (usually AUD5,000.00 plus airfare tickets)

You must meet health and character requirements

Visa applicants from Ecuador, Greece, Indonesia, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Mongolia, Peru, Poland, San Marino, Slovenia, Thailand and Türkiye must provide a letter of support from their government.
​Please note if you hold a passport from China, India or Vietnam, you must participate in a pre-application process (ballor) and be selected to apply for your first subclass 462 visa.
WHAT THIS VISA ALLOWS YOU TO DO

Live, work for up to six months for the same employer and study for up to four months in Australia during the validity period of the visa (usually twelve months)

Travel to and from Australia during the validity of the travel facility of the visa

Apply for two subsequent subclass 462 visas (total of up to three subclass 462 visas) as long as you have completed specified subclass 462 work.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Subclass 462 visa holders should be aware that:

They must inform the Department of Home Affairs of any relevant change to their circumstances

They must comply with all conditions imposed on the visa applicant when the visa was granted

They must obey Australian law

If another visa is granted while holding the subclass 462 visa, this visa will cease when then new visa is granted. Please make sure you are aware of any visa conditions in the new visa as this may mean you are no longer have work rights.

The base visa application charge for Work and Holiday (subclass 462) visa is of AUD670.00
